Recorded Feb. 04, 2014

The Maryland-based band formed in 2004, learning to play music by jamming and listening — really listening — to each other. But now, ten years later, the band has matured into a much more powerful, tight unit. Lionize still hammer out most songs in the studio and rehearsal room from the basic spark of an idea. Jetpack Soundtrack, their fifth album and first for the Weathermaker Music label, is no different.

This exclusive six-song album was recorded live at the Belly Up during Lionize’s February 2014 US tour as support to Pepper. It is the band’s first live album. After ten years of jamming together with a rock n roll backbone of guitar, bass, drums and a Hammond organ that can take the band to funk, soul or psychedelic, Lionize’s live show has become unpredictable. The Maryland-based band has been touring extensively across the nation, playing through clubs coast to coast and even playing to 10,000 people at the majestic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. The band’s music reveals their affinity for reggae, rock, funk, soul and blues with wide ranging influences such as, Steel Pulse, Bob Marley and the Wailers, Capleton, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Clutch, Bad Brains, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Cream, Motorhead, Parliament Funkadelic, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Solomon Burke and more. In 2006 Lionize was able to
tour as support to one of their musical influences, the band Clutch. The two bands found a shared mutual regard of music as a sacred cultural and intellectual art form, particularly jazz and rock and roll. That bond endeared the younger band, Lionize, to their seasoned patrons who continue to influence each other’s creative process to this day.
