The Jayhawks and their Americana-influenced sound first emerged from Minnesota during the mid-1980s. One of the most important bands of the postpunk era in the crowded Twin Cities 1980s music scene, The Jayhawks
came of age in a memorable decade that saw the likes of the Replacements, Soul Asylum, Husker Du and Prince put Minnesota on the musical map in a big way. Over the last 3 decades, The Jayhawks have become known for their exquisite harmonies, accomplished songwriting and energizing live shows, while creating a classic sound that fuses the best elements of country, rock, folk, Americana and pop.
The January 11th 2015 show at the Belly Up was part of a tour to support the 2014 deluxe reissues of 3 of the band’s albums originally released between 1997 and 2003: “Sound of Lies”, “Smile” and “Rainy Day Music”. This show features a late 90s lineup of band expertly covering every era of The Jayhawks long career with highlights including ''Waiting for the Sun'', “Big Star”, “Blue”, ''Tailspin,'' “Save It For a Rainy Day,” “Take Me With You (When You Go)”, and “Settled Down Like Rain”.
